JOEY Restaurants is a well-established family-owned restaurant group that has been delivering exceptional dining experiences since 1992. With more than 50 locations across Canada and the United States, JOEY is known for its iconic, locally and globally inspired handcrafted menus created by award-winning chefs. The company prides itself on creating modern, warm, and lively environments where every guest can enjoy unique culinary offerings and outstanding hospitality. JOEY continues to grow and expand its presence in North America, with plans for further development beyond 2030. The culture at JOEY Restaurants emphasizes warmth, inclusivity, creativity, and a strong commitment to the training, education, and empowerment of its people, making it a great workplace for those seeking career growth and development in the hospitality industry.
This job opening for a Sushi Chef at JOEY Restaurants offers a competitive base pay starting at $17.13 per hour, which aligns with Washington State's minimum wage, plus opportunities to earn tips through participation in the company’s tip pooling system. The role is crucial to the restaurant’s success, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a passion for crafting iconic culinary experiences through consistently high-quality sushi preparation. The Sushi Chef will prepare all menu items related to sushi, working efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding kitchen environment. Responsibilities include ingredient preparation, inventory management using standards such as PAR levels, and adherence to recipe and rotation guidelines to maintain food quality and safety. Other duties encompass cooking various menu items using different techniques like grilling, sautéing, and frying, coordinating with other kitchen stations, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in preparation and cooking areas. The Sushi Chef will also be responsible for equipment maintenance, following safety protocols, and supporting the kitchen team during opening and closing shifts.
Candidates are expected to have between one to over three years of culinary experience, with flexibility towards enthusiastic individuals with less experience but high potential. The position requires valid or obtainable local and state food handling permits and a strong passion for hospitality, demonstrated through delivering world-class guest experiences. Successful team members are authentic, warm, and attentive with a commitment to honesty, integrity, and mutual respect. They are problem solvers eager to positively influence both individual and team performance and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a healthy, supportive competitive environment. Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending and reaching, repetitive manual tasks, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
JOEY Restaurants offers a variety of employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, medical reimbursement plans, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for eligible staff. Employees enjoy professional development opportunities, employee meal discounts during shifts, a 10% discount for employees and their guests at all JOEY locations, referral bonuses, sales contests with prizes, and paid sick leave. This position is available for both full-time and part-time employment, with no formal education required. JOEY Restaurants is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified candidates. Joining JOEY means embarking on a rewarding career journey in one of North America’s most recognized restaurant brands dedicated to culinary excellence and genuine hospitality.
