Job Description
JOEY Restaurants is a renowned family-owned and operated restaurant group established in 1992 that has grown into an iconic multi-concept brand with over 50 locations across Canada and the United States. Known for delivering the ultimate dining experience, JOEY combines locally and globally inspired handcrafted menu offerings created by award-winning chefs with world-class hospitality in a modern, warm, and lively environment. Their commitment to excellence and continuous growth is evident as they plan to expand further through 2030. The company prides itself on fostering a culture of People Development, valuing genuine warmth and care as the foundation for both guest experiences and employee engagement. At JOEY, the success of the restaurants is directly attributable to a dedicated team of exceptional, performance-driven, and team-oriented partners. They emphasize training, education, and empowerment of their employees, ensuring each partner can grow and reach their full potential within an inclusive and creative environment.
The Sushi Chef role at JOEY Restaurants is crucial to maintaining the high standards of culinary excellence the brand is known for. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for creating iconic, world-class sushi menu items in a fast-paced, demanding setting. This role requires a blend of passion, dedication, and precision to craft consistent, artfully prepared sushi that enhances the overall dining experience. The position demands keen attention to detail, efficient multitasking, and the ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen stations to ensure timely and high-quality food production. Sushi Chefs at JOEY handle a variety of prep and cooking methods, including washing, chopping, cutting, grilling, roasting, sautéing, and frying, to craft the menu items exactly according to JOEY’s recipes and standards. Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment is essential, including the upkeep of refrigerators, cooler drawers, ovens, prep, and dry storage areas. Additionally, Sushi Chefs are expected to complete assigned side work and closing duties that contribute to the smooth operation of their team’s shifts.
JOEY Restaurants seeks Sushi Chefs with 1-3 years of culinary experience, although they encourage candidates with high potential and less experience to apply. Successful candidates will either have or be able to obtain valid local and/or state Food Handler permits as required. This role suits those who thrive in dynamic and fast-paced work environments and are passionate about hospitality, professionalism, and quality. Physical stamina is necessary, as the role involves prolonged periods of walking and standing, frequent bending, reaching, stretching, repetitive manual tasks, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
The ideal Sushi Chef at JOEY possesses genuine warmth, integrity, strong communication skills, and natural problem-solving abilities. They foster healthy team competition, display professionalism in appearance and demeanor, and show confidence balanced with humility and respect. JOEY values team members who are continuously learning, open to feedback, and committed to creating memorable hospitality experiences.
Joining JOEY means accessing career development, education, and growth opportunities within a supportive environment. The company offers comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options, as well as a medical reimbursement plan and Employee Assistance Program for eligible partners. Employee perks include discounted shift meals, discounts on food and beverages at all JOEY locations, referral bonuses, and opportunities to participate in sales competitions and earn rewards. JOEY is an equal employment opportunity employer dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. By becoming a part of JOEY, you embark on a journey where your passion, purpose, and potential align to create outstanding dining experiences and career fulfillment.
