The Sushi Chef Helper role at Park Hyatt Aviara is designed for individuals with foundational culinary skills focused on sushi preparation and kitchen operations within a luxury hotel environment. This position requires a candidate with at least 1-2 years’ experience in a sushi cook capacity, highlighting the importance of good communication skills and a solid understanding of sushi recipes and ingredient handling. Candidates with a culinary degree or related hotel cooking experience are highly preferred, as this position functions as an intermediate level cook role who will support the sushi chefs by performing basic to intermediate cooking duties across multiple kitchen stations.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years experience as sushi cook
  • basic sushi preparation knowledge
  • culinary degree preferred
  • hotel cooking experience preferred
  • able to communicate effectively
  • ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • good communication skills
  • 3 years of previous line experience preferred
  • culinary degree or related hotel experience is preferred
  • ability to perform all basic and intermediate cooking skills
  • ability to work multiple stations in the kitchen
  • able to work under moderate supervision and training

Job Duties

  • Prepare basic and intermediate sushi dishes according to recipes and standards
  • assist sushi chefs in daily kitchen operations
  • maintain cleanliness and organization of sushi preparation areas
  • ensure proper handling and storage of sushi ingredients
  • communicate effectively with kitchen and service staff
  • work efficiently across multiple kitchen stations
