Job Description
Uchi Philadelphia is an acclaimed restaurant located in the vibrant Rittenhouse Square, known for its exceptional Japanese cuisine and innovative culinary experience. As part of Hai Hospitality, a dynamic and multi-concept restaurant group originally based in Austin, Texas, Uchi Philadelphia represents a blend of elevated food artistry and impeccable service standards. Founded by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole, Uchi offers a distinctive dining experience that includes non-traditional Japanese cuisine, signature tastings, sushi, and seasonal omakase menus, creating memorable and unexpected culinary journeys for all guests. The restaurant's reputation and high standards make it a favorite destination for locals and visitors seeking both quality food and a unique atmosphere.
In the role of Sushi Chef at Uchi Philadelphia, you will become an integral part of a passionate and skilled culinary team. This position is an exciting opportunity to hone your craft under the guidance of highly trained chefs, perfect sushi techniques, and actively contribute to menu creations that embody the innovative spirit of the establishment. Sushi Chefs at Uchi earn a competitive wage, averaging $25 to $30 per hour including base pay and tips, complemented by an attractive benefits package and a $2,500 sign-on bonus awarded 90 days after training completion. This position offers opportunities for career growth within Hai Hospitality’s expanding group, as promotion from within is a key component of the company culture.
As a Sushi Chef, you will familiarize yourself thoroughly with the menu and the intricacies of Japanese cuisine while learning to handle ingredients with precision to reduce waste optimally. Interaction with guests directly at the sushi bar is a vital part of the role, enhancing the overall dining experience by providing detailed explanations and creating a welcoming atmosphere. You will also be challenged to advance your skills by learning multiple sushi stations and collaborating on special dish concepts alongside your teammates. This role thrives on teamwork, positive attitudes, and an eagerness to learn and improve continuously. It is ideally suited for individuals who can perform efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments and who are motivated by both personal and professional growth.
At Uchi Philadelphia, the work environment fosters humility, collaboration, and creative contribution. Candidates are expected to be self-motivated, emotionally intelligent, and receptive to constructive feedback. This position offers more than a job; it offers an immersive experience within a reputable hospitality group that values employee well-being and the creation of unforgettable guest experiences. Through benefits such as medical, dental, vision, accident insurance options, an Employee Assistance Program with mental health services, employer-matched 401k savings plans, and dining discounts, Uchi Philadelphia ensures that employees feel supported and valued.
Joining Uchi Philadelphia means becoming part of a respected community in the hospitality industry, with opportunities to develop culinary expertise in a nationally recognized restaurant brand. Whether you are sharpening your sushi-making techniques, learning about Japanese cuisine's nuances, or engaging with patrons, this role blends craftsmanship and customer service for a rewarding culinary career.
