Job Description
Uchiko in Miami Beach is a celebrated and innovative restaurant that is part of Hai Hospitality, a dynamic multi-concept restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas. Known for its distinctive culinary experience, Uchiko is the inspired offspring of James Beard Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole's original Uchi concept. This establishment brings a unique fiery twist to traditional Japanese cuisine by incorporating elements of smoke and char alongside the fresh and clean flavors that guests expect from this acclaimed brand. Uchiko is positioned as a premier dining destination in Miami Beach, offering an exceptional atmosphere for both guests and employees alike.
The company maintains a high standard for culinary excellence and guest interaction, demonstrating its commitment to quality food and a memorable dining experience. Uchiko’s Miami Beach location is currently hiring Sushi Chefs and offering an attractive $1,250 sign-on bonus, payable after the successful completion of 90 days of training. Sushi Chefs at Uchiko can expect to earn an average hourly rate of approximately $25, which includes base pay plus tipout.
This role offers significant opportunities for career growth within a reputable hospitality group that promotes from within almost exclusively. Uchiko supports its team members through comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and accident insurance options. Employees can also access mental health services via an Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance, and an employer-matched 401(k) savings plan. Moreover, Uchiko fosters a culture of continuous learning and cultural exchange by offering unique experiences such as Cultural Ambassador trips to other locations to learn and teach, as well as a knife reimbursement and sharpening program.
The position of Sushi Chef at Uchiko involves engaging directly with guests at the sushi bar, taking orders, explaining dishes, and ensuring an outstanding dining experience. Sushi Chefs will progressively learn various sushi stations with opportunities to collaborate in creating dishes featured on the specials page and core menu. Uchiko prioritizes candidates with previous experience in high-volume, guest-facing sushi lines to maintain its quality service standards. Employees also enjoy daily family meals, dining discounts, and monthly dining stipends, making Uchiko not just a workplace but a vibrant community where culinary professionals thrive and grow.
