Job Description

Hy-Vee is a supermarket chain known for its commitment to customer service, quality products, and community engagement. Founded in 1930, Hy-Vee has grown to become a leading grocery store brand in the Midwest, recognized for its friendly and helpful associates. The company prides itself on fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, emphasizing teamwork, professional growth, and a customer-first approach. Hy-Vee maintains a strong dedication to safety, food quality, and providing a welcoming shopping experience, making it a trusted destination for fresh and flavorful food products.

Hy-Vee is currently seeking a dedicated Sushi Chef to join their Asian Department team. This non-exempt position plays a crucial role in preparing fresh sushi products both to order and pre-packaged for customers, ensuring high standards of food safety and customer satisfaction. The Sushi Chef will be responsible for ordering, receiving, and organizing products, labeling and dating items properly, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the work area. This role requires a professional with a growth mindset who can work effectively with colleagues, train team members, and engage with customers in a friendly and respectful manner. The successful candidate will contribute to the company's promise of "a helpful smile in every aisle" by providing courteous and efficient service, helping customers find products, and enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Responsibilities include preparing fresh sushi, interacting positively with customers both in person and via phone, and assisting with merchandising and food layout strategies. The Sushi Chef will report to the District Store Director and Store Management, and will have supervisory responsibilities over Sushi Clerks. Candidates should have a high school education or equivalent, Hy-Vee food safety training, and Food Safety Certification, with one to three years of related experience preferred. Physical stamina is necessary given the job's demands, including lifting and standing for extended periods. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Sushi Chef must adhere to company policies, attend relevant meetings, and stay updated on meal trends.

This role offers an opportunity to be part of a respected supermarket chain that values employee commitment and development, providing team members with an inviting workplace and the chance to influence customer satisfaction positively. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. If you are passionate about sushi preparation and ready to deliver exceptional customer service, Hy-Vee invites you to apply and become part of their dynamic team.
