The role of Sushi Chef in Hy-Vee’s Asian Department is integral to delivering fresh and high-quality sushi options to customers. This position is a non-exempt, part-time or full-time role that requires working night and weekend shifts to meet customer demands and maintain product quality. The Sushi Chef will be responsible for preparing fresh sushi both for packaged sales and made-to-order requests, ensuring food is handled safely while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and presentation. This role involves direct interaction with customers, providing courteous and friendly service while assisting with product inquiries and orders. Additionally, responsibilities include overseeing product ordering and receiving to ensure inventory accuracy, as well as labeling and storing products properly.

Job Duties

  • Prepares fresh sushi for customers both packaged and made-to-order
  • provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions

  • answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers including taking product orders
  • assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, passing customer suggestions or requests, and enhancing the shopping experience
  • works with co-workers as a team and provides training to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat
  • involved in schedules and overseeing food ordering and planning

  • aids in merchandising techniques and food layout for sushi products
  • attends company and industry meetings as assigned
