Job Description
Hy-Vee is a well-established supermarket chain known for its commitment to customer service and community involvement. With a strong presence across the Midwest, Hy-Vee prides itself on its slogan "a helpful smile in every aisle," reflecting its dedication to providing excellent shopping experiences. The company values its employees as its greatest strength and fosters a workplace environment that emphasizes teamwork, professionalism, and a growth-oriented mindset. Hy-Vee employs a diverse range of professionals who contribute to the success of the stores, ensuring that customers feel valued and supported during every visit. The company operates in various departments, including bakery, deli, pharmacy, and fresh foods, with a strong focus on quality and food safety.
The Sushi Chef role at Hy-Vee is an integral position within the Asian Department, focusing on preparing fresh sushi both packaged and made-to-order. This non-exempt position involves handling food safely, managing inventory by ordering and receiving products, and maintaining a neat and sanitary work area. The Sushi Chef is responsible for delivering courteous and efficient customer service, enhancing the overall shopping experience while upholding the store's high standards. Reporting to the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Asian Department Managers, the Sushi Chef also supervises sushi clerks and works closely with a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
In this role, night and weekend shifts are required, reflecting the operational hours and customer needs of the store. The Sushi Chef engages directly with customers, answering inquiries, taking orders, and providing product recommendations. The position demands a proactive approach to teamwork, cleanliness, and compliance with company policies. Additionally, the role involves aiding in merchandising and food layout, planning fresh sushi demonstrations, and staying up-to-date with meal trends and menu planning to continually innovate the sushi offerings.
Candidates are expected to have a high school diploma or equivalent, food safety certification, and one to three years of related work experience preferably in meal preparation. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and perform various physical activities such as standing, walking, and repetitive motions. The environment is fast-paced and requires the Sushi Chef to be able to adapt to temperature extremes and work under pressure. Overall, the role offers a rewarding opportunity to work in a dynamic food service setting that values skill, creativity, and a commitment to excellent customer interactions. Employment at Hy-Vee is contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment drug screening.
