Job Description
Food City is a privately held, family-owned company with a strong community focus and a mission to 'run the best store in town.' Established as a leading grocery retailer in the regions we serve, Food City prides itself on delivering exceptional products and services to its customers. With a workforce that boasts over 13% employee ownership through our stock ownership plan, we foster a culture of pride, dedication, and teamwork. Our associates are encouraged to engage with their local communities through civic organizations, reflecting our commitment to social responsibility. We offer a variety of career opportunities across multiple fields including baking, accounting, and logistics, providing a work environment that supports flexible schedules to ensure a balanced personal and professional life. At Food City, our people truly are our greatest asset and we strive to maintain an inclusive and motivating working environment that supports growth and development.
The role of the sushi chef at Food City is an engaging and customer-centered position integral to our in-store fresh sushi program. This role involves direct interaction with customers during sushi preparation and through frequent product sampling, making it imperative that the chef is outgoing, friendly, and knowledgeable about all aspects of sushi production. As a sushi chef, you will be responsible for preparing various types of finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce, ensuring that all ingredients meet the highest quality and food safety standards. You will also assemble, package, and label sushi products and sides for sale, as well as prepare custom sushi rolls based on customer requests. Maintaining cleanliness and organization at your workstation is critical, as all production takes place in full view of the customer. The chef will also play a role in training new associates, helping to maintain consistent product quality and compliance with all relevant food safety regulations. Additionally, you will actively market the sushi program through scheduled samplings, assist with inventory management, and communicate customer feedback to management, thereby contributing to continuous improvements in our offerings. This position offers a dynamic work environment where precision, presentation, and customer service skills are equally important, making it an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about sushi and customer engagement. The sushi chef role is essential in upholding Food City's reputation for quality, freshness, and customer satisfaction in our specialty food offerings.
