Job Description
Food City is a privately held, family-owned grocery store chain with a heartfelt commitment to serving its communities with the highest quality products and services. Known for its slogan 'run the best store in town,' Food City differentiates itself through dedication to customer satisfaction, community involvement, and associate empowerment. With over 13 percent of the company owned by employees through an employee stock ownership plan, Food City fosters a workplace culture of pride, engagement, and collaboration. Associates enjoy a supportive environment with flexible schedules designed to balance work and personal life, plus comprehensive benefits that underscore the company’s investment in its workforce. Whether one's passion lies in culinary arts, logistics, finance, or retail, Food City offers promising and diverse career paths in a vibrant, growing organization.
The Sushi Chef role at Food City represents a unique opportunity to be an integral part of our in-store fresh sushi program, engaging directly with customers and delivering high-quality, fresh sushi products. This position is pivotal in creating an appealing and interactive shopping experience by producing sushi in front of customers, demonstrating professionalism, cleanliness, and expertise. The chef plays a crucial role in not only food preparation but also customer service, actively engaging with shoppers through greeting, sampling, and knowledge sharing.
The position requires a meticulous approach to maintaining food safety standards and quality control, including the preparation and monitoring of sushi rice, fresh seafood, and produce. The Sushi Chef assembles a variety of sushi forms, custom rolls, sides, and spring rolls while ensuring all products are packaged and labeled in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Maintaining a clean and organized workstation in a high-visibility environment emphasizes the need for discipline and attention to detail.
Beyond food preparation, the Sushi Chef serves as a trainer and collaborator, assisting other associates and communicating customer feedback to management to continually enhance the sushi program. Participation in marketing efforts such as scheduled sampling helps promote the product and drive sales. Inventory management is also an important aspect of the role, requiring assistance in ordering supplies to manage stock effectively without overstocking or running out.
This position is full-time and requires standing for extended periods, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment. The successful candidate will share Food City's mission of quality, customer engagement, and community-minded service, contributing meaningfully to the brand’s reputation and growth. The Sushi Chef is more than a cook – they are an ambassador of Food City’s values and commitment to excellence in every roll served.
