Momiji is currently hiring for the position of Sushi Chef, a critical role responsible for preparing fresh ingredients and crafting sushi dishes that meet exacting standards. This role entails working either at the sushi bar or in the back-of-house kitchen to create meals that adhere to recipe specifications and satisfy customer orders. The Sushi Chef must ensure the freshness and quality of ingredients, skillfully prepare various foods such as meats, seafood, fruits, and vegetables, and meticulously present dishes to enhance their appeal. Efficiency, attention to detail, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment are all fundamental aspects of this role. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience as a sushi chef or similar role preferred
- Ability to multitask
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain consistent speed
- Positive and professional attitude
- Knowledge of menu items and cooking techniques including safe use of knives and kitchen equipment
- Reliable with good attendance
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to adhere to health and safety policies and procedures
- Flexibility to work full-time or part-time as needed
Job Qualifications
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and keep a consistent fast tempo
- Must have a good and positive attitude
- Must have good understanding of menu and cooking methods such as using knives stove fryer steamer and oven
- Must be reliable and have a good attendance record
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
- Must be able to follow all health and safety policies and procedures
- Must be able to function in the primary chef secondary chef and sushi end stations
Job Duties
- Operate in the sushi bar and/or back of the house ensuring food is prepared safely effectively and according to specifications and requests
- Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh and complete
- Follow recipes including measuring ingredients weighing and mixing ingredients
- Bake grill steam boil fry and chop meat seafood fruits vegetables and grains
- Present and garnish final dishes so they are visually attractive
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Contribute to stocking ordering and purchasing of ingredients ensuring necessary ingredients are fresh and minimize spoilage waste by communicating with Head Sushi Chef
- Communicate any issues with kitchen equipment utensils or other supplies to Head Sushi Chef
- Handle and store different types of ingredients appropriately
- Maintain food and safety sanitation standards policies and procedures
- Assist serving staff as needed
- Assist other kitchen staff as needed
- Clean outside of kitchen such as dining room as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
