Within the Banner Boswell Medical Center, the Surgery Department is a close-knit team environment that values strong teamwork and collaboration with key stakeholders. They utilize cutting-edge technology such as the DaVinci Robot, O Arm, and TAVAR programs to enhance surgical outcomes. The department is currently seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Surgical Technologist to join their multidisciplinary team. This part-time role features day shifts from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities. The position offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus for experienced CVOR Scrub Techs and includes compensation with weekend and night shift differentials.
The CVOR Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in assisting surgeons during complex cardiovascular surgeries. Reporting to the Registered Nurse, the technologist is responsible for preparing and managing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. They are proficient in scrubbing for at least two surgical specialties, including advanced procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass and cardiac assistive devices. The role demands the ability to work efficiently under high-pressure and fast-paced conditions, demonstrating excellent communication and teamwork skills, and maintaining strict adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
The Surgical Technologist participates actively in OR turnover, equipment maintenance, and may contribute to orienting and training surgical technology staff and students. This role requires manual dexterity, organization, conscientiousness, and the capacity to respond promptly to the surgeon's and patient's needs. Job Duties
- Prepares for surgical procedures
- pulls appropriate instruments and supplies
- ensures good working order of instruments
- reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies
- troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and calls biomedical staff if needed
- anticipates surgeon's needs
- passes instruments and retracts tissue
- maintains competency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties
- demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions
- disposes of sharps and trash
- participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges
- prepares instruments for cleaning
- ensures surgeon preference cards are accurate
- assists with OR turnover between cases
- participates in stocking and cleaning operating rooms
- participates in or leads training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students
- may provide business support including administrative tasks
- follows safety procedures including medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps handling, time-out procedures, radiation and laser safety
- participates in emergency call rotation
