The role currently available is a full-time, regular position within the ESM Dining/Auxiliary Operations department, based at the main campus located at 100 Gibbs Street in Rochester, New York. This position offers a competitive hourly compensation range from $23.06 to $32.29, with actual rates determined based on various factors including market data, education, experience, and internal equity considerations.
This full-time role involves working 40 scheduled hours per week with rotating shifts, ensuring flexibility to meet the operational demands. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a residential dining location, ensuring that customer service, food safety, and product quality standards are consistently upheld. This position is critical in managing a diverse team consisting of represented employees, agency staff, and student workers, acting as a critical liaison between students, staff, and the dining management team.
In this leadership role, the individual will directly supervise the dining staff, train employees on food safety practices and customer service protocols, assist with scheduling and staffing, and contribute to creating a positive work environment. Coordinating menu updates, promotions, and events to enhance the overall customer experience will also be important aspects of the job. Additionally, managing inventory control, ordering supplies, maintaining financial records, and ensuring cleanliness and sanitation according to health department standards are integral duties.
This position demands a proactive and attentive leader comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment, with a strong focus on operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience in food services or dining operations
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Associate degree in Business Management, Hospitality Management, food-related service, or related field preferred
- Experience in a leadership position preferred
- Ability to lead and manage others
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of food safety standards and point-of-sale handling procedures
- Ability to train, motivate, and develop staff
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Serv-Safe and other applicable certifications within 12 months of hire required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience in food services or dining operations
- Experience in a leadership role preferred

Job Duties
- Supports and oversees the daily operations of a residential dining location
- Maintains accurate records of operational procedures and inventory management
- Works closely with leadership to plan and implement menu updates, events, or promotions
- Monitors customer flow and operational procedures to meet demand
- Ensures efficient and timely service at all times
- Directly supervises and trains dining staff on food safety and customer service standards
- Interviews, hires, orients, and trains new employees
- Assists with scheduling to ensure adequate staffing
- Evaluates employee performance and performs disciplinary actions as needed
- Assists with inventory control, ordering, and restocking of food and supplies
- Maintains financial records and assists with point-of-sale reconciliation
- Ensures cleanliness and sanitation standards are met
- Collects quality control and assurance data
- Provides a welcoming and friendly environment
- Resolves customer complaints professionally
- Coordinates maintenance of dining equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
