The Quality Inspection Manager role at Benchmark is vital to maintaining the high standards the company sets for its products. The position is based in Concord, California, and operates on the first shift from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This full-time role offers a competitive salary ranging approximately from $86,014 to $107,517 USD. The incumbent will manage inspection activities within production areas, ensuring product quality standards align with customer expectations and internal benchmarks. They will provide leadership and guidance within the inspection team, optimizing resource utilization, and fostering a highly effective employee unit through targeted training, development, and performance management.

In this role, the manager will demonstrate deep expertise in metrology tools, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) operation and programming, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). They will create, document, and implement inspection criteria and procedures, serving as a subject matter expert in metrology and quality control. Additionally, the manager will develop and analyze statistical data using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to establish quality and reliability benchmarks. They will oversee the formulation and maintenance of quality control standards, including compliance with ISO certifications, to assure continuous product excellence.

The role demands a strong background in Lean Manufacturing principles, Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA), root cause analysis, problem-solving, and quality management systems (QMS). The manager will also play a crucial role in identifying and resolving nonconforming materials, improving inspection tools and processes, and coordinating priorities with internal customers to meet organizational objectives. Collaboration with cross-departmental teams, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and leading continuous improvement efforts are key aspects of the job.

  • 4 year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management
  • 5 plus years of electronics manufacturing experience
  • 2 plus years related to inspection
  • 2 plus years in a leadership role

Job Duties

  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in metrology tool use, CMM operation/programming and GD&T
  • Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures including CMM and serve as subject matter expertise in metrology
  • Develop and analyze statistical data (SPC) and product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products
  • Formulate documents and maintain quality control standards and ongoing quality control objectives including ISO certifications
  • Oversee inspectors' work to ensure product quality requirements are met
  • Manage identification, segregation, and documentation of nonconforming material
  • Review and improve existing inspection processes, tools, and systems
  • Coordinate priorities from internal customers to meet department goals
  • Participate in customer and/or auditor discussions
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Create specific training programs for quality inspectors
  • Compile and report quality data for internal and external customers including FAI
  • Implement regular quality audit programs and maintain current procedures
  • Provide work direction to line auditors and determine manpower requirements
  • Participate and/or lead customer support and quality improvement teams
  • Investigate and correct customer issues relating to quality in a timely manner
  • Supervise inspectors' testing activities to ensure high productivity and technical integrity
  • Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams and leadership
  • Interface with site Supplier Quality Engineer(s) to ensure quality of purchased parts
  • Create and direct environmental test functions and applications
  • Design, develop and implement quality control training programs
  • Provide expertise in the overall safety management program
  • Identify and lead change initiatives within the department
  • Maintain required employee records
  • Apply Benchmark quality management tools to analytical and reporting processes
  • Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service
  • Act as a backup for the manager as required
