This full-time hospital pharmacy leadership position offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus and entails working Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with no weekend shifts, providing a balanced work schedule for the successful candidate. The position is within the Acute Care Pharmacy department, which plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and effective medication use for pediatric patients in an acute care setting.

The role is primarily that of a pharmacy supervisor responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. The supervisor acts as an online leader and performs the duties of a registered pharmacist as necessary. Key responsibilities include supervising and managing pharmacy staff, including hiring, firing, coaching, counseling, evaluating, and training both professional and technical personnel. The supervisor verifies the appropriateness of medication dosing based on patient-specific factors such as diagnosis, weight, age, and body surface area. They also identify and intervene in issues related to drug therapy, such as allergies, drug interactions, adverse reactions, therapeutic duplications, and compatibility concerns, to optimize patient safety.

In addition, the supervisor assesses the appropriateness of drug therapy choices and advocates for cost-effective, efficacious medication alternatives. They evaluate the need for non-formulary medications, ensure proper medication preparation and labeling, and maintain high-quality standards in pharmaceutical services. This leadership role extends to participating in staff education and patient training, providing drug information, performing therapeutic drug monitoring, and ensuring adherence to medication use criteria. The supervisor manages staffing logistics, including schedule organization and call-in adjustments, and plays a critical role in safety incident investigations and follow-up, advising management on operational improvements to enhance patient safety.

The position also involves taking on-call duties and filling in for staff pharmacists when needed, managing specific responsibilities to ensure a safe and effective medication use system. When assigned to the Specialty Pharmacy, the pharmacy supervisor acts as the senior clinical staff member, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements from the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, specialty pharmacy accreditation bodies, and other agencies. This comprehensive role requires a doctorate in pharmacy, at least four years of direct work experience including one year of leadership, and current pharmacist licensure through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.
