Currently, TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is seeking a Supervisor of Equipment to join their team in San Jose, CA. This pivotal role involves overseeing the maintenance operations for a passenger rail vehicle fleet, ensuring the fleet's readiness and safety to meet agency operational demands. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing maintenance activities, compliance with regulatory standards, and a proven track record in supervising mechanical staff. The position offers a competitive annual salary range from $108,750 to $126,875 and emphasizes a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

As Supervisor of Equipment, the individual will be responsible for managing mechanical department staff, enforcing safety policies, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, including those set by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and the Association of American Railroads (AAR). This role requires a hands-on approach to conducting inspections and prioritizing repairs promptly, utilizing knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems integral to rail vehicles. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and the ability to interpret complex schematics and repair manuals are essential.

In addition to technical expertise, the Supervisor of Equipment will function as a leader and mentor, training staff and fostering a collaborative work environment that aligns with Herzog's culture and operational values. Job Requirements

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review
  • maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required
  • subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation and drug screening
  • complete and maintain required safety certifications and testing annually
  • able to regularly lift up to 75 pounds to a height of 56 inches
  • regularly carry 75 pounds up to 100 feet
  • push and pull up to 50 pounds up to 50 feet
  • regularly grasp with forces up to 40 pounds
  • ascend and descend ladders carrying up to 25 pounds
  • work in confined spaces
  • kneel, bend and squat while transferring up to 25 pounds
  • sit and stand for extended periods
  • walk on uneven surfaces up to one mile
  • lay on back for extended periods
  • reach overhead while holding tools
  • be aware of surroundings and follow commands amidst loud noise
  • adapt to varying temperature extremes
  • work in safety-sensitive environments
  • pass color vision and auditory signal examinations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • college or technical school qualification desired
  • minimum 5 years relevant experience in passenger rail vehicle maintenance desired
  • knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and HVAC systems preferred
  • ability to read and interpret schematics and maintenance manuals desired
  • ability to attain and maintain certifications
  • strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • team building skills
  • experience with Microsoft Office
  • basic computer skills

Job Duties

  • Manage mechanical department staff
  • enforce safety policies and ensure a safe working environment
  • ensure compliance with FRA, CPUC, APTA and AAR regulations
  • perform interior and exterior inspections of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems
  • prioritize and complete repairs efficiently
  • use hand tools and test equipment safely
  • read and interpret equipment repair manuals, schematics and drawings
  • work independently and within a team
  • complete inspection forms, work orders and material requisitions
  • communicate clearly using two-way radios
  • complete required testing and training
  • support the Manager of Equipment Maintenance
  • train, lead and mentor subordinate staff
  • engage in and promote company culture
  • maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • perform other duties as assigned
