Job Description

Johnson County Community College (JCCC), established in 1969 and located in Overland Park, Kansas, is a nationally recognized institution dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening communities through exceptional learning opportunities. With a reputation built over more than 50 years, JCCC provides smaller class sizes, more resources, and a vibrant campus culture to foster educational excellence and student success. The college offers competitive tuition rates and a wide array of extracurricular experiences, aiming to inspire lifelong learning and community engagement. JCCC's mission is to inspire learning that transforms lives and strengthens communities, while its vision positions it as an innovative leader committed to equitable student access, learning, and success. The institution upholds high standards of equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination, ensuring a supportive, inclusive environment for all employees and students.

The Supervisor, Kitchen at Hiersteiner Child Development Center (HCDC) is a full-time, hourly position based at the Overland Park Main Campus. This role operates within the Finance & Administrative Services Department and is essential in overseeing all food service and laundry operations specific to HCDC’s unique needs. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:15 am to 3:45 pm (40 hours per week), this position reports as non-exempt and starts with an hourly salary range of $18.22 to $23.31, which is determined based on applicable work experience.

As the Kitchen Supervisor at HCDC, the individual will perform a senior-level supportive role that requires minimal supervision while assisting less experienced team members. Key responsibilities include planning menus in line with the Child and Adult Care Food Program’s components and guidelines and supervising student laboratory activities related to food services. This role serves as a critical resource to both HCDC employees and families, maintaining compliance with center, state, national accreditation, and federal food program regulations. The supervisor will manage the kitchen budget, oversee purchases of supplies and materials, and ensure that food preparation and production are conducted safely and hygienically.

The Supervisor is also responsible for training and preparing Kitchen Aides, ensuring smooth daily service delivery in the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor, facilitating weekly staff meetings, and conducting student evaluations in a timely manner. Incorporating produce from the Children’s Garden into meal planning when possible, providing nutritional education to children and families, and preparing audit materials for the Child and Adult Care Food Program are integral parts of the role.

This position requires a high school diploma, alongside at least three years of relevant experience. A valid driver’s license is mandatory. The college highly values applicants who demonstrate the ability to complete tasks independently, support and guide less experienced team members, and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in food service. Applications must include a resume, cover letter, and application form, with unofficial transcripts required for faculty positions.

JCCC offers comprehensive benefits for full-time employees, such as health insurance with some employer-paid options, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage, retirement plans including 403(b), 457(b), and KPERS, and an employer-paid 8% contribution into a 403(b) plan with no match required. Benefits also encompass paid time off including vacation, sick, personal, and floating holidays, 14 paid holidays, full tuition reduction for JCCC credit courses (for both employees and eligible dependents), tuition reimbursement for non-JCCC courses, free access to the campus gym for employees and their dependents, discounts to the Hiersteiner Child Development Center, among many others.

Applicants encouraged to apply by May 25, 2026, will join a progressive community college that values diversity, inclusion, and respectful workplace practices. JCCC is committed to the equal employment opportunity and prohibits discrimination based on numerous protected characteristics. Inquiries regarding compliance with these policies can be directed to designated Title IX and Human Resources offices. The college also ensures reasonable accommodation during the application process upon request.
