Job Description

This full-time Food Services Manager position is a key leadership role within the Inland Empire Job Corps Center. Reporting directly to the director of finance and administration, the Food Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive food service operations, which include managing the cafeteria and special center function meal services. This role requires supervising senior cooks, cooks, cook helpers, and student interns involved in work-based learning programs. The manager will ensure that food services align with governmental and organizational directives, maintaining high standards of food quality, nutrition, safety, and customer satisfaction.

The Food Services Manager will be tasked with planning, coordinating, and supervising administrative and food service activities. Duties include menu planning with advanced logging in the MTC Student App for dietary preferences and allergies, overseeing meal orders for students requiring to-go meals, and evaluating staff performance while providing appropriate training and recommending personnel changes in coordination with human resources. Additionally, the manager will assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to improve food services, conduct regular inspections and audits for contractual compliance, and prepare related reports.

This role is integral to promoting a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all center customers, including students and staff. The manager must ensure appetizing, nutritious, and properly portioned meals are provided in a comfortable setting. Cost control and inventory management are critical to maintain budget limitations and ensure efficient operations. Coordination with the culinary arts Career Technical Training (CTT) program is also part of the role to enhance program integration.

Furthermore, the Food Services Manager will actively contribute to student employability programs by supporting, mentoring, and enforcing the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy to foster career success standards. The manager will maintain accountability for students and property, model appropriate behaviors, and intervene when necessary to encourage positive conduct. This position also involves participation in monthly student satisfaction surveys related to the food services, ensuring continuous improvement based on feedback.

Candidates must meet education and experience requirements, including a bachelor's degree with one year of related experience or an associate degree with two years of related experience, with supervisory experience preferred. The role requires a valid food handler's permit in the state of California, strong communication skills, experience working with youth, and computer proficiency. MTC offers a competitive salary of $71,000 per year along with a robust benefits package.

Job Duties

  • plan, coordinate and supervise the administrative and food service activities of the department
  • log menu items seven days in advance in the MTC Student App, including dietary preferences or allergies if applicable
  • fulfill to-go meal orders from the MTC Student App for work-based learning students or any other students that need one
  • evaluate staff performance, provide staff training, and recommend personnel changes to the director, finance and administration and coordinated with human resources prior to implementation
  • assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting food services
  • plan the menu
  • review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students
  • conduct inspections of food service areas
  • manage preparation of food services for special center functions and visitors
  • provide appetizing, nutritious and realistically proportioned meals in a clean, comfortable environment
  • ensure quality of production and food purchase requirements
  • maintain cost control to stay within budget limitations
  • assist in inventory control
  • coordinate cafeteria services with culinary arts CTT program
  • conduct monthly surveys to assess student satisfaction with food services
  • maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment
  • provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
  • participate in student employability programs and activities
