Job Description
The University of Utah is a renowned public research university located in Salt Lake City, Utah. With a strong commitment to innovation, education, and community engagement, it fosters an enriching environment for students, faculty, and staff. The university is dedicated to maintaining a safe, functional, and comfortable campus for its members, making facilities management a critical function in supporting its mission. As part of the university, the Facilities Management department plays an essential role in overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety standards of the campus infrastructure. The department collaborates closely with various university sectors, external contractors, and administrative bodies to ensure that the facilities meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. The Facilities Management team is proactive, efficient, and customer-service oriented, focusing on delivering outstanding support to further the university's objectives and ensure a productive environment for learning and innovation.
The role of Supervisor, Facilities Management, is a pivotal leadership position within the University of Utah’s Venues District, located on campus. This full-time role offers a competitive salary in the range of $65,000 to $75,000 annually and follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with after-hours emergency responses as needed. The supervisor is responsible for directly managing the operation and maintenance of university facilities, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. This includes supervising staff and vendors, scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, safety regulations, and university standards. The supervisor also develops and implements strategic maintenance plans, manages budgets for building operations, and supports procurement and contract administration.
A key responsibility is to ensure high-quality and timely service delivery through effective leadership, quality oversight, and continuous communication with department stakeholders. The supervisor acts as a primary point of contact for facility-related needs, resolving maintenance issues promptly and fostering efficient coordination between various university departments and external contractors. This role requires conducting regular inspections to uphold operational standards, monitoring maintenance procedures, and assisting in decision-making processes that align with the university's goals. Candidates for this position should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with at least two years of related experience, or a master’s degree or equivalent. The university recognizes work equivalency where one year of higher education may substitute for one year of related work experience. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with proven leadership skills in facilities management, a strong customer service ethic, and a dedication to ensuring a safe and well-maintained campus environment. The position contributes directly to the University of Utah’s mission by maintaining infrastructure that supports academic and extracurricular activities, research, and community engagement, thereby playing an integral role in the university's continued success and growth.
