The organization values leadership and teamwork, ensuring that every member contributes to the overall success and positive impact on patient outcomes. As a nationally recognized health system, Banner Health emphasizes coordinated clinical care, research-driven medical advancements, and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and patient safety.
Banner Health is currently seeking an Environmental Services Supervisor for its University Medical Center Phoenix location, a prestigious academic medical center with over 730 licensed beds and a Magnet-recognized commitment to nursing excellence. This facility is renowned for its specialized care units, integrated multi-specialty clinics, and a collaborative partnership with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. The Environmental Services Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff, thereby directly influencing the quality of the patient experience.
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with two openings available on night shifts. The shifts are from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and overnight from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. The role involves supervising an Environmental Services team of approximately 35-45 personnel. The supervisor oversees all operational, technical, and personnel activities, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols. Working closely with clinical departments and infection control teams, the supervisor ensures hospital cleanliness standards are strictly met and continuously improved. Responsibilities include managing labor, supplies, equipment, and vendors within budgetary guidelines, alongside maintaining inventory and departmental records.
The Environmental Services Supervisor is tasked with fostering a motivated and competent team through effective staff selection, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance evaluation. Regular patient rounding and area inspections to ensure cleanliness compliance are essential duties, as well as coordinating special projects such as construction planning and emergency facility responses. The supervisor is also expected to liaise with various hospital departments and external parties to resolve service issues and implement best practices. This role demands strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills, along with thorough knowledge of healthcare environmental services, infection control standards, and hazardous waste regulations.
Prior experience in hospital or clinical environmental services, particularly in a supervisory capacity, is highly preferred. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of floor care, patient room cleaning, surgical suite terminal cleaning, and related maintenance procedures. Familiarity with JCAHO standards and Standard Precautions governs the approach towards infection prevention and control. Proficiency in computerized staffing, inventory management, and reporting is crucial to support efficient department operations. This position demands a proactive approach to quality improvement and customer service excellence within a dynamic healthcare environment.
