The role of Superintendent at Kovach is a vital position within the Construction Department, serving as the eyes and ears on the job site to ensure seamless coordination of materials, equipment, and personnel across various projects. The Superintendent's primary goal is to improve field efficiencies while upholding Kovach's high standards of quality and safety. This position carries responsibilities beyond those of a typical Field Manager, demanding a proactive, hands-on approach to managing construction sites. Superintendents are expected to prioritize jobsite safety by identifying potential hazards and communicating them immediately to the Director of Safety and Risk Management. They play a critical role in injury protocols, ensuring accurate and prompt reporting in case of incidents. Key tasks include scheduling and participating in field measurements, verifying materials against bills of lading and shop drawings, reviewing substrates for compliance, and coordinating housing and equipment needs. The Superintendent also provides on-the-ground training for new field employees and facilitates clear communication between detailing and field personnel to address any discrepancies. Budget monitoring and change order generation fall under the Superintendent's purview, requiring vigilance to manage costs related to labor, equipment, lodging, and general conditions, with timely notifications to management regarding potential budget overruns. They ensure all safety data sheets (MSDS) and safety plans are available at job sites and oversee time and labor management through software systems like hh2 Payroll. Accurate daily field reporting and shop drawing reviews are essential duties, alongside managing overtime approvals and monitoring labor productivity closely. The ideal candidate is experienced in metal and glazing installations and construction supervision, possesses strong leadership skills, is proficient with document control software, and demonstrates excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making abilities. Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety protocols is critical for maintaining a safe work environment. Physical demands of the role include frequent standing, walking, climbing on construction sites, and the ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds. Superintendents at Kovach embrace challenges as opportunities, inspire positivity among their teams, and exhibit trustworthiness and ethical behavior in all professional interactions. They excel at networking, active listening, and balancing a strong work ethic with genuine concern for their colleagues. The work environment exposes the Superintendent to outdoor conditions, varying noise levels due to machinery, and the dynamic pace typical of active construction sites. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative team that values growth, professionalism, and a strong safety culture while contributing to landmark projects in the region.
