Job Description
Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is a well-established public school district serving the communities around Proviso East High School and Proviso West High School. The district is committed to providing quality educational experiences and community services, including comprehensive summer school programs. These programs are designed to support students' academic growth during the summer months, ensuring that they stay on track with their educational goals. The district prides itself on fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for students, staff, and the community at large.
The Summer School Kitchen Supervisor position for the 2026 summer program is a crucial role within the Food Service department of Proviso Township High Schools. This role involves overseeing the daily kitchen operations during the summer school session, which spans two distinct sessions in June and July. The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for supervising and assisting food service workers in preparing meals that adhere to strict quality, safety, and sanitation standards. With an hourly wage of $25, this summer position is excellent for individuals with significant experience in cooking and kitchen management who are looking to contribute to a vibrant educational environment. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, with hours from 8:45 am to 2:15 pm, aligning with the summer school timetable and allowing for a balanced summer work experience.
The role requires a hands-on approach to ensure that meals are prepared on time, served in proper portions, and meet the reimbursable meal standards set by the district. The Kitchen Supervisor also collaborates closely with the Manager of Nutrition Services to create daily work schedules for the team and oversee the appropriate use and care of kitchen equipment. This role demands a strong attention to detail, as supervisors are responsible for food storage, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to prevent contamination and hazards.
Additionally, the Kitchen Supervisor plays a key role in promoting teamwork among food service staff and maintaining positive interactions with students, teachers, and visitors. This customer service aspect is essential in creating a welcoming and efficient dining experience during the summer school sessions. Supervisors must also manage financial tasks such as supervising cashiers, handling money collection, and preparing daily bank deposits. Monitoring student meal accounts and coordinating with the Business Office are also part of the responsibilities.
This position offers a unique professional development opportunity, as supervisors may be required to attend pre-summer training sessions and workshops to stay updated on best practices and district policies. The physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, moderate lifting, and working under various environmental conditions typical of a busy kitchen setting. Overall, the Summer School Kitchen Supervisor role at Proviso Township High Schools is ideal for experienced food service professionals seeking a meaningful summer position that supports student nutritional needs and contributes to the district’s overall educational mission.
