Job Description

High Point University (HPU) is a private institution known for its commitment to providing students with a comprehensive and engaging collegiate experience. Located in High Point, North Carolina, the university emphasizes personal growth, academic achievement, and vibrant campus life. At the heart of HPU's efforts to enhance student engagement is the Office of Student Life, which encompasses various departments aimed at fostering community and supporting student development. One of its key divisions is the Student Experience team, a dynamic group dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and enriching environment for all HPU students. This team manages a range of programs and resources such as the campus cinema and arcade, venture trips, student programming, Summer Advantage, Welcome Week, first-year experience initiatives, and numerous campus activities that contribute significantly to student life and campus culture.

The Student Experience team at HPU is seeking Summer Activities Assistants for Summer 2026. This position is designed as a valuable opportunity for current HPU students to gain hands-on experience in leadership, event planning, interpersonal communication, facility management, and customer service. As a Summer Activities Assistant, individuals will engage directly with the campus community by working in the arcade and cinema, assisting with the development and execution of student programs, chaperoning venture trips, and supporting office operations. The role requires a flexible work schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, and some evenings, with a work commitment of at least 14 hours and up to 25 hours per week, depending on whether the student is taking summer classes. Tasks will be performed across various campus locations including the R.G. Wanek Center, the Slane Center, other campus venues, and at off-campus sites for venture trips.

This position offers a starting pay rate of $10.00 per hour and provides a rare chance to build professional skills in a supportive environment that values student input and enthusiasm. Employment is primarily for the summer months from early June to late July, with an option to extend through August and possibly into the 2026-2027 academic year. Summer Activities Assistants play a crucial role in representing the Student Experience team positively, facilitating numerous student-led events, and ensuring operational excellence at campus facilities. The ideal candidates should be proactive, detail-oriented, and effective communicators who can manage multiple responsibilities efficiently and contribute to the vibrant campus life at HPU. This role is especially suitable for those with an interest in event programming, customer service, and leadership development within a university setting, offering a comprehensive experience that complements academic pursuits and enhances career readiness.
