Job Description
The Lions Camp at Teresita Pines, located in Valyermo, California, represents a unique summer camp experience devoted to providing children with disabilities the opportunity to explore new activities, build friendships, and grow in confidence within an encouraging and supportive environment. The camp is a seasonal, week-long sleep-away establishment focused on inclusion, creativity, and community engagement, serving a diverse group of children aged 8 to 15. Emphasizing both recreational and developmental programs, Lions Camp is committed to fostering an environment where every camper feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential. This environment encourages personal growth through a variety of activities specifically tailored to meet a range of abilities and interests, including sports, crafts, and performing arts.
The Camp Theater Activities Coordinator role at Lions Camp is a pivotal position responsible for delivering a dynamic and inclusive theater program designed to engage campers and nurture their creative expression. This seasonal, part-time role runs from July 26 to July 31, 2026, encompassing 6 days and 5 nights in a vibrant camp setting. The position offers a flat rate payment of $1,325 plus an hourly rate of $19.25 during training periods. The coordinator is entrusted with the comprehensive planning, organization, and execution of all aspects related to theater activities, including warm-up exercises, improvisation games, skit development, storytelling, and rehearsal sessions. This role requires coordination and collaboration with camp leadership to ensure seamless integration of theater programs into the overall camp schedule, adapting to various camper capabilities and preferences.
The role demands leadership skills to foster a welcoming, inclusive space that promotes teamwork and creative confidence among campers. The Theater Activities Coordinator will also manage the procurement and maintenance of essential supplies such as scripts, costumes, props, and set design materials, keeping detailed inventories aligned with budget constraints. Supervising campers during activities, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating a final performance showcase are key responsibilities. The coordinator plays an integral part in ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers, adhering to established camp policies and encouraging a respectful, positive environment.
This position is ideal for individuals passionate about theater and youth development who desire to make a meaningful impact in a setting that celebrates diversity, including neurodiverse inclusion. It requires patience, adaptability, strong communication, and interpersonal skills, combined with a genuine interest in supporting children in an outdoor camp context. Through engaging and thoughtfully designed theater activities, the coordinator helps campers explore their creative potential while fostering a sense of community and belonging. By participating in post-camp evaluations, the Theater Activities Coordinator will contribute to the continuous improvement and future success of the camp's theatrical programming.
In summary, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to lead a creative initiative that positively influences young campers' lives by integrating performing arts into a broader developmental journey during a memorable camp experience. The position requires commitment, enthusiasm, and a compassionate approach to nurturing young talents in a safe, supportive environment dedicated to celebrating every camper's uniqueness.
