Fresh Air Camps, established in 1877, is a respected nonprofit organization that has positively impacted over 1.8 million children through its transformative summer programs and year-round leadership opportunities. Located in the scenic Hudson Valley of New York, Fresh Air Camps operates six residential overnight camps. Job Requirements
- At least 18 years old by the start of camp (June 29, 2026)
- High school diploma required
- Some college experience preferred
- Commitment to work and live onsite at camp for the entire summer season (June 20, 2026 - August 15, 2026)
- Passion for working with children
- At least one year of relevant experience
- Must meet vaccination requirements including polio, MMR, TDap, varicella, and others as mandated
- Proof of vaccination or approved exemption required as a condition of employment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience working with children or in a similar role
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to mentor and support youth effectively
- Comfortable with outdoor activities and living in a camp environment
- Ability to collaborate well with team members
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive camp environment
Job Duties
- Provide 24/7 supervision, leadership, and mentorship for a group of 6-12 campers fostering their growth and development
- Organize and engage in a variety of activities including sports, swimming, arts and crafts, archery, model farming, and camp-wide events
- Take responsibility for the physical and emotional well-being of all campers addressing challenges with empathy and skill
- Work closely with co-counselors and Program Specialists to deliver an enriching camp experience
- Lead by example promoting teamwork, respect, and resilience
- Write daily reports and final evaluations to document each camper’s journey
- Fully embrace the unique environment of overnight camp including communal living, shared meals, and spirited activities
