Job Description

Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim, managed by Xanterra Travel Collection, offers a unique and dynamic work environment deeply rooted in hospitality and environmental stewardship. Xanterra Travel Collection is the primary authorized concessionaire at the South Rim, known for providing exceptional guest experiences while preserving the natural beauty and integrity of one of America's most iconic landmarks. This establishment values a passionate workforce dedicated to delivering memorable service to visitors from around the globe.

This Culinary Internship offers an immersive 12-week program designed for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in high-volume hospitality operations. As a seasonal, full-time internship position from May 2026 through September 2026, participants work approximately 40 hours per week, usually on a five-day schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. With a competitive wage of $16.05 per hour, this program provides invaluable industry exposure and practical culinary skills development within a fast-paced, authentic hospitality setting.

Interns will engage in cross-training across multiple restaurants in Grand Canyon Village, enabling them to build a broad skill set in various roles within food and beverage operations. The program includes hands-on culinary training as a line cook, prep cook, and lead cook or kitchen supervisor, as well as exposure to scheduling, inventory management, food cost control, team coaching, and guest service recovery. Interns will have opportunities to shadow sous chefs and participate in culinary and hospitality development classes. They also attend departmental management meetings, gaining insight into operational leadership and teamwork in a real-world context.

Life at the South Rim offers several advantages, including dormitory-style employee housing, cafeteria-style meals, laundry facilities, shuttle service, and limited WiFi. Interns benefit from a vibrant workplace culture that fosters camaraderie with coworkers from diverse backgrounds. Additional perks include access to a rec center equipped with fitness and computer facilities, paid time off on birthdays accompanied by discounts, discounted mule rides, participation in summer property olympics, free Grand Canyon Railway train rides, and exclusive discounts across Xanterra properties. The program culminates with a supervisor critique, performance scorecard, and a certificate of completion acknowledging the achievements and skills gained throughout the internship.

This internship is ideal for aspiring hospitality professionals, particularly those enrolled or recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or a related field. It requires individuals to meet physical demands such as repetitive motions, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing up to 100 pounds, and enduring prolonged periods of standing and walking at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high-quality work standards. The company is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and identities to apply.
