Job Description

Outagamie County is a government entity committed to serving its diverse community with integrity, compassion, and efficiency. Focused on enhancing the quality of life for its residents, Outagamie County operates numerous public programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Among these, the Nutrition Program plays a critical role in supporting homebound older adults and persons with disabilities by delivering nutritious meals directly to their homes. This act of service ensures that vulnerable community members can maintain their health, independence, and well-being in a dignified manner. The county embraces core values such as being invested in serving, fostering collaboration under the philosophy of 'better together,' creating progress through continuous improvement, and supporting community members with compassion. These values are integral to every role within the county's workforce and define the culture that employees operate within.

The Nutrition Program is currently seeking part-time substitute Food Transporters to join its team, covering shifts at the Kaukauna, Seymour, and Hortonville locations. These roles are designed to provide essential support when regular staff are unavailable, ensuring that meal delivery services to homebound participants remain uninterrupted. The position is ideal for compassionate and self-motivated individuals who possess reliable personal transportation, a flexible schedule, and a strong passion for public service and community care. Substitute Food Transporters play a pivotal role in delivering packaged home-cooked meals from designated locations to recipients' residences throughout Outagamie County. By doing so, they help address food insecurity and nutritional needs among older adults and persons with disabilities.

Given the part-time and substitute nature of the role, hours may vary week to week, generally ranging from 5 to 10 hours per week based on coverage requirements. This position is classified as non-benefit eligible, meaning that it does not include traditional benefits such as health insurance or paid leave. However, mileage for work-related travel is reimbursed at the IRS standard rate, recognizing the use of personal vehicles to perform duties.

As a Food Transporter, the employee will be responsible for maintaining food safety standards by taking monthly or as-needed meal temperature checks, adhering to state guidelines to ensure meals arrive fresh and safe for consumption. Efficiency is a key aspect of this role, with delivery times to individual participants typically not exceeding 10 minutes unless otherwise authorized. Accurate record-keeping and timely reporting are also vital components, enabling seamless communication with the Mealsite Manager and the Health and Human Services (HHS) Aging & Nutrition Supervisor. Additionally, the role involves distributing educational and informational materials as required and attending trainings or meetings to remain informed about program updates and best practices.

Outagamie County values individuals who demonstrate sensitivity to the unique needs of older adults and persons with disabilities. The ideal candidate for the Food Transporter substitute position will have the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain reliability and flexibility. The county encourages candidates with experience working with older individuals or those with disabilities but is also open to those possessing an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the necessary skills. Possessing a valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle is mandatory for this role to ensure safe and efficient transportation of meals.

Outagamie County is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community it serves. It actively promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion by removing barriers related to racial, social, and other systemic inequities. The county supports reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to foster a workplace where every employee can thrive. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of community members by ensuring that vulnerable populations receive consistent nutritional support. Those passionate about serving others and contributing to community well-being will find this position rewarding and impactful.
