The Substitute Bus Driver role reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor and involves operating school buses on assigned routes with the highest priority on student safety and timely transportation. The successful candidate will be entrusted with the responsibility of driving students safely while adhering strictly to the laws of the State of Oregon Department of Transportation. Key responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and fuel levels of the assigned bus, following designated schedules accurately, and exercising caution to protect students and school property. The position requires the driver to complete required CORE training and behind-the-wheel testing to ensure competency and safety awareness before operating the vehicle. The role also demands adherence to district policies regarding security, including managing district keys and reporting any concerns related to student welfare immediately. Additionally, the Substitute Bus Driver must be prepared to undergo a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting and criminal history, as a condition of employment. The job demands a valid CDL driver's license with appropriate certifications, a clean driving record, and current first aid and CPR certifications. Employment terms, including work year, salary, daily hours, and benefits, are determined by the OSEA Contract, Board of Directors, and the Transportation Supervisor, reflecting a structured and supportive work environment for the driver.

Job Duties

  • Drive routes to transport students to and from school, sporting, and special events
  • keep assigned bus clean and fueled
  • maintain regularity of time while driving daily routes
  • hold safety of students and other passengers as top priority
  • follow the laws and regulations of the State of Oregon Department of Transportation
  • take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and protect equipment, materials and facilities
  • immediately report information regarding abuse of any kind to the appropriate administrator or social service agency
  • be responsible for district keys as assigned
  • perform other duties as assigned
