Job Description

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is a leading energy utility provider serving millions of customers across Northern and Central California. As an established and highly regarded company, PG&E is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable electric and natural gas services. The company operates a vast and complex infrastructure that includes electric distribution and transmission systems, encompassing planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response. By prioritizing innovation, safety, and sustainability, PG&E plays a critical role in supporting the energy needs of communities while fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship.

The role open at PG&E is for a Journey-level Electrician specializing in General Construction within the Electric Operations division. This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245, a union with over a century of experience advocating for electric utility workers. The Electric Operations team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to customers by managing a full spectrum of electric system functions. This includes tasks such as reviewing and modifying electric schematics, installing conduit and wiring, setting up control panels, and operating various construction and lifting equipment.

The Electrician role requires candidates to have proven technical skills, hands-on experience, and the ability to work in diverse weather conditions and multiple geographic locations within PG&E's service territory. The job entails travel and potential transfers between different headquarters at any time, reflecting the dynamic nature of the utility sector's operational demands. Alongside technical capabilities, the position demands adherence to strict safety protocols, use of personal protective equipment, and the capacity to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position offers a starting wage rate of $68.56 per hour, subject to collective bargaining agreements and may vary according to specific certifications, skills, education, and experience. Employees may also be eligible for pay premiums depending on their assigned division within the service territory. Provisional hires will undergo targeted training programs to meet journey-level electrician standards within 12 months post-hire and must complete all required testing and assessments.

Overall, this journey-level electrician role at PG&E presents an excellent career opportunity for skilled electricians seeking to contribute to a crucial utility infrastructure while benefiting from competitive wages, union representation, and comprehensive training and development paths. The position demands flexibility, technical proficiency, physical stamina, and commitment to safety and quality service delivery in a fast-paced work environment.
