Job Description
Greater Waco Legal Services (GWLS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to justice and legal education to underserved communities in the Waco, Texas area. Operating at the intersection of legal aid and community service, GWLS works tirelessly to bridge gaps in legal knowledge and resources by offering educational seminars, community workshops, and various outreach programs. Affiliated with Baylor University, GWLS benefits from a strong connection to an academic environment that values community engagement and student involvement.
The Community Engagement & Events Coordinator position at GWLS is designed specifically for students interested in nonprofit work, community engagement, and event planning. This part-time role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working within a supportive team environment. The position requires 10-15 hours of commitment per week during regular working hours (9 am to 5 pm), making it ideal for students balancing academic responsibilities with meaningful community service. The pay rate ranges from $12 to $15 per hour, with ongoing employment available through the fall and spring semesters.
The coordinator will partner closely with GWLS staff to support the strategic planning and execution of key events, including fundraising initiatives, educational seminars, and community workshops. Responsibilities span from logistical support, such as managing venue arrangements and preparing event materials, to direct outreach with external partners such as schools, nonprofits, and community organizations. Through meticulous scheduling and communication, the coordinator helps to expand the reach of GWLS’s educational programming, enhancing community understanding of legal rights and resources.
This role plays a vital part in ensuring events run smoothly by managing on-site processes like setup, registration, and troubleshooting during workshops and seminars. The coordinator also supports the creation of presentation materials and collaborates with staff to align activities with GWLS’s mission. Additional duties include maintaining calendars for events and partner engagements and conducting follow-up communications to foster lasting relationships with community stakeholders.
Students hired for this position must be federal work study eligible and maintain compliance with university policies, including regular and punctual attendance. The role not only develops organizational and communication skills but also fosters professional outreach abilities through email and phone engagements with a diverse range of community partners. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, capable of juggling multiple projects, and eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization that prioritizes inclusivity and legal education.
Located at 1224 Austin Avenue, Suite 200, Waco, TX, GWLS offers a welcoming and dynamic work environment where students can expand their experience in nonprofit operations while making a meaningful community impact. This position is an excellent fit for individuals looking to build a career in nonprofit management, community development, legal education, or event coordination.
