The Student Barista position at UVU’s Starbucks is a vital role designed not only to ensure excellent customer service but also to provide students with a valuable work experience within a vibrant, service-oriented setting. This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $11.61 to $21.12 and is classified as a student job, providing flexibility to accommodate class schedules. The work schedule is set Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, with weekends off, making it an ideal role for students seeking part-time employment. Reporting to the Manager of Starbucks, the Barista is responsible for preparing beverages that meet Starbucks’ standardized recipes while tailoring orders to individual customer preferences. In addition to beverage preparation, the Barista handles cash and electronic payments, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the workspace is a key responsibility, including adhering to strict product date tagging and rotation policies to ensure freshness and compliance with health and safety standards. The role also involves selling and restocking bottled beverages, sandwiches, and snacks, contributing to an overall positive retail experience for customers. This position not only hones skills related to customer interaction and food service but also develops a strong sense of responsibility, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Candidates for this student position must be currently enrolled at UVU and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in a similar role is preferred, alongside a valid Food Handler's permit to comply with health regulations. The ability to work at least four consecutive hours is required to ensure adequate coverage during shifts. Additionally, essential skills include effective communication, the physical ability to stand for long periods and handle merchandise, and familiarity with customer service best practices. Job Duties
- Serve as a representative of both UVU Bookstore and Starbucks Corporation providing the best beverage experience possible
- Ensure beverages are made to Starbucks standards and recipes and according to customer requests
- Process cash credit card and phone payments and give accurate change as necessary
- Adhere to strict product date tagging rotating and cleaning of the work area
- Appropriately display and sell bottled beverages sandwiches and snacks and restock and clean the work area
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
