The role open at UVU’s Main Campus in Orem is for a Barista at the Starbucks location. This is a student employment opportunity, offering hourly wages ranging from $12.00 to $21.65. It is an ideal position for current UVU students who are looking to gain work experience while maintaining flexible hours around their academic schedule. The Barista will work under the guidance of the Starbucks Manager and is responsible for preparing and serving Starbucks beverages following the company’s strict standards and recipes, as well as meeting customer preferences.
This position operates from Monday through Friday, with specific hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and until 5:00 PM on Fridays, while weekends are off, providing a balanced work-life schedule. Responsibilities include not only crafting high-quality drinks but also processing payments, handling cash transactions accurately, maintaining clean and safe workstations, and ensuring proper product rotation and date tagging to comply with food safety regulations. This position requires strong customer service skills, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to upholding the Starbucks brand alongside the university's values. Additionally, the Barista will assist with restocking merchandise such as bottled beverages, sandwiches, and snacks, ensuring the sales area is inviting and well-organized.
Applicants for this role must be currently enrolled UVU students, possess a valid food handler’s permit, and have the capability to work for at least four consecutive hours during the shift. Experience related to beverage preparation or customer service is beneficial, particularly familiarity with Starbucks beverage making, but training is provided. Beyond technical skills, the successful candidate will exhibit strong communication abilities, physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift merchandise repeatedly, and adhere to all verbal and written procedures. This student position does not include the university’s full-time employee benefits but offers meaningful work experience and engagement within the campus community.

Job Duties
- Serve as a representative of both the UVU Bookstore and Starbucks Corporation providing the best beverage experience possible
- Ensure beverages are made to Starbucks standards and recipes and customer requests
- Process cash credit card payments or phone pay and give accurate change
- Adhere to product date tagging rotating and cleaning of the work area
- Display and sell bottled beverages sandwiches and snacks appropriately restock and clean work area
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
