Job Description

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is a prominent educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality educational opportunities to a diverse student body in Utah. Known for its commitment to community engagement and academic excellence, SLCC offers a range of programs and services designed to support student success and foster lifelong learning. The college's Child Care & Family Services division plays a critical role in supporting student parents and the wider community by offering licensed child care and family services at various campuses, including the Tim and Brenda Huval Child Care Center at the South City Campus. This center provides a nurturing and educational environment for young children, aligning with SLCC's commitment to early childhood development and education.

The role available for Work-Study students under the guidance of Program Associates is to provide essential secretarial and administrative support to the Director of Child Care & Family Services. This position offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in meaningful work that combines administrative duties with hands-on classroom support. The Work-Study student will be involved in handling confidential information, maintaining compliance with state, federal, and college regulations, and assisting the child care team with a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the child care center. The job encompasses responsibilities such as reception duties, maintaining licensing and accreditation files, managing accounts and contracts, and providing classroom support during breaks and transitions.

Additionally, this position requires the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, and the public, both in person and over the phone. Given the high-stress environment, candidates must maintain a professional demeanor while managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook is essential, along with basic webpage editing skills. The position also involves meal preparation and tracking meal services, requiring attention to detail and accuracy. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, knowledge of early childhood education principles, and the ability to maintain compliance with relevant regulations. This role provides valuable insight into the operations of a busy educational child care center and offers an enriching experience for students seeking to develop administrative and childcare skills in an academic setting.
