The Housekeeping Department at Newman University is currently offering several student position openings for summer full-time employment. These positions are designed specifically for current or recently graduated students who are enthusiastic about contributing to campus maintenance while acquiring valuable workplace skills. The role involves a blend of custodial duties, floor maintenance, and painting tasks, ensuring a variety of daily responsibilities that help maintain the university's facilities. The employment period runs from May through August, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with some weekend work possible. The position pays $10 per hour.

The housekeeping worker's main responsibilities include custodial cleaning and trash removal (about 40% of daily work), floor maintenance such as waxing, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping (approximately 30%), and painting or moving furniture (also about 30%). Painting tasks are limited to ground-level wall painting, with no ladder work involved, making the job safer and accessible. Cleaning duties encompass a wide range of activities, including sanitizing restrooms, lobbies, public areas, and student rooms, as well as replenishing supplies, surface cleaning, dusting, glass cleaning, and polishing. Floor maintenance tasks ensure that all hard floors and carpets remain in excellent condition through waxing, vacuuming, and mopping. Painting involves preparing and painting both interior and exterior walls as needed, including pouring, stirring, and mixing paint, plus cleaning up paint spills.

The university expects candidates to be legally eligible to work in the United States and to have a basic understanding of cleaning techniques. Applicants must be flexible, reliable, capable of following instructions, and able to complete tasks efficiently and with quality. Initiative and the ability to work independently are considered advantages. Physical requirements include the ability to operate standard household cleaning equipment, paint standard-sized walls, and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and lifting 30 to 35 pounds multiple times per hour.
