Jackson State University (JSU) is a renowned institution committed to providing an enriching educational environment that fosters student success through comprehensive programs and dynamic campus life. The Department of Student Center Operations plays a critical role in enhancing the campus experience by managing facility operations and coordinating engaging programs that promote student involvement, wellness, and community engagement.
This Student Center Program Coordinator position is a pivotal role within the department, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the daily management and programming of the JSU Bowling Alley and other student center facilities. The coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient scheduling, facility readiness, and a high-quality experience for all users ranging from students and faculty to community partners. This role demands a highly organized professional capable of balancing multiple responsibilities including event coordination, technical support, vendor management, and student engagement.
The position includes detailed oversight of facility operations such as space utilization, safety compliance, and maintenance coordination. The coordinator will work closely with different campus entities, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and external clients to support a vibrant and welcoming environment. This engagement includes planning and delivering recreational programming, wellness initiatives, tournaments, and special events that contribute to the university’s goals of fostering student leadership, recreation, and community connection.
Beyond facilities management, the role integrates extensive event coordination duties including logistical planning, on-site event management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve flawless execution and exceptional customer service. The coordinator is also responsible for the technical operation of audio-visual equipment, ensuring presentations, meetings, and events progress smoothly with the appropriate support and troubleshooting.
Financial and vendor support responsibilities encompass overseeing service agreements, purchasing documentation, and compliance with university procurement policies. The position requires someone who is detail-oriented and adept at managing financial processes related to event support.
Administrative tasks include maintaining accurate records using event management software such as TripleSeat, generating reports on facility usage and program outcomes, and communicating operational priorities with department leadership. This role is essential for driving continuous improvement and fostering an environment that supports student engagement and operational excellence.
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field with at least two years of professional experience in event coordination, facility management, or student programming. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer service skills are essential for success. Familiarity with event management platforms and audio-visual technology is highly desirable.
