Job Description

The position available at the Student Center is a full-time Specialist role designed to provide exceptional set-up services for all guests and users of the Student Center and other designated university facilities. This role requires an individual who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of coordinating the preparation of event spaces to meet the specific needs of various functions hosted on campus. The Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the physical arrangement of furniture, setting up and testing audio-visual equipment, and ensuring that all meeting and event spaces are clean, well-maintained, and ready for use. The position is crucial in creating a positive and professional environment for students, faculty, and visitors attending events at the Student Center.
Working Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, the Specialist must demonstrate flexibility and a proactive approach to managing event logistics. Key responsibilities include overseeing the placement of tables, chairs, and technical equipment, performing light custodial duties such as trash removal and surface cleaning, and monitoring room conditions including temperature, lighting, and door access. The Specialist will also play a supervisory role by assisting with the management and training of the student Event Set-Up Crew, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
Additionally, the Specialist is tasked with maintaining supplies related to room and equipment needs, placing printed room cards for events, and reporting any maintenance or repair issues to ensure the continued functionality and aesthetics of the event spaces. This position demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and other stakeholders within the university community.
The role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging between $15.00 and $16.11, reflective of the qualifications and experience required. Candidates for this position should possess at least a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of one year of directly related work experience. Job Duties
- assist with set-up for scheduled events within the Student Center including table and chair placement and audio-visual equipment testing
- perform light custodial duties such as cleaning meeting rooms, trash removal, wiping surfaces, and maintaining furniture and floor cleanliness
- check and replenish supplies related to room equipment
- monitor and adjust room temperatures, door access, and lighting
- place printed room cards for scheduled events
- assist in supervising and training the student Event Set-Up Crew
- participate in reporting maintenance and repair needs
- perform other job-related duties as assigned
