Job Description

Utah Valley University (UVU) is a public university located in Orem, Utah, known for its commitment to providing a comprehensive and student-focused educational experience. The university embraces a culture of diversity, inclusion, and community engagement, striving to offer opportunities that support student success, both academically and professionally. Serving thousands of students each year, UVU continues to expand its campus facilities and departments to meet the evolving needs of its student population. Among the various support departments, Dining Services plays a crucial role in enhancing the campus environment by delivering satisfying, nutritious, and accessible food options to students, faculty, and staff. UVU Dining Services is known for maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, and customer service, ensuring every individual receives quality meals in a friendly and efficient setting.

The role available is a Dining Services Student Assistant position aimed at students who want to gain hands-on experience in a food service setting while balancing their academic commitments. This position involves active participation in food preparation, cooking, product stocking, and cleaning duties necessary to support the daily operations of UVU’s Dining Services. This is a part-time job designed specifically for UVU students, providing an excellent opportunity to develop skills in food handling, kitchen safety, and teamwork in a dynamic environment. The student assistant will work closely with chefs and other dining staff to ensure timely, accurate preparation of food items including sandwiches, salads, fruit, and vegetable dishes. Additionally, responsibilities extend to maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and dining equipment, dishwashing, floor sanitation, and other maintenance tasks, all critical for the smooth functioning of the dining services.

The position offers day and evening shifts starting at 7:00 am, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work on Saturdays. It requires a consistent daily time gap of 4-5 hours available for work, making it ideal for students who need flexible hours around their coursework. Given the varied nature of the work, candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, an ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and a commitment to customer service excellence. The position also expects the ability to stand for long periods and comfortably lift up to 50 pounds, reflecting the physical nature of the job. UVU is committed to equal employment opportunities and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds without discrimination. This part-time employment helps students not only to earn income but also to build important work experience and relationships within the university community, reinforcing both personal and professional growth in a supportive campus environment.
