The MSU Bakery, situated at 220 Service Road, is an integral part of the university's food service operations, providing freshly baked goods to various on-campus and off-campus locations. The Student Bakery Assistant position at MSU is a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience in a dynamic food production setting. This part-time, hourly role offers a pay rate of $14.73 per hour worked. Student assistants play a crucial role in supporting full-time bakery staff with the preparation, baking, and packaging of a wide range of baked products such as cakes, bagels, cookies, and bread. The role requires working early morning shifts beginning as early as 4am, with the latest start time at 11am, Monday through Friday, and occasional Sundays from 5am to 1pm.

This position not only provides students with practical skills in food production and kitchen safety but also emphasizes the importance of reliable attendance, teamwork, and excellent customer service. Candidates must be enrolled as students at Michigan State University during the academic year and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. The role involves operating bakery machinery, packaging product for delivery, stocking and rotating items using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method, and maintaining the cleanliness of the bakery including the dish room.

Physical demands include the ability to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and the ability to stand or walk for more than 90% of the shift. The position offers flexibility within the bakery’s operational hours of 4am to 2pm Monday through Friday and 5am to 1pm on Sundays. Students can expect varied shifts based on the bakery’s needs, with international students limited to 19 hours per week and domestic students allowed up to 29 hours during the school year.

Job Requirements
