Job Description

Saab is a leading defense and security company known for its commitment to innovation and excellence in advanced technology. With a workforce of 28,000 employees, Saab relentlessly pushes the boundaries of technology to create a safer and more sustainable world. Headquartered in Syracuse, New York, Saab operates across ten locations in the United States, supporting a wide range of partners including the U.S. Armed Forces and the Federal Aviation Administration. The company offers an inclusive culture that values diversity and encourages professional growth, work-life balance, and career advancement. As an Affirmative Action employer, Saab fosters an environment where all qualified individuals are welcomed and given equal opportunities regardless of race, gender, disability, or veteran status.

Currently, Saab is expanding its advanced manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, where it has opened opportunities for Structural Assemblers on the first shift. This role plays a critical part in manufacturing the aft fuselage for the U.S. Air Force's new military trainer, the T-7A Red Hawk. Structural Assemblers are responsible for assembling the aircraft structure with precision and quality, ensuring every component meets stringent aerospace standards. The company provides extensive on-the-job training through its Aerospace Structures Training Academy, allowing new hires to gain valuable skills and knowledge in a hands-on environment. The anticipated start date for these positions is July 2026.

The role involves executing standardized working procedures to deliver 100% quality in mechanical assembly and system installation on the aircraft structure. Structural Assemblers are expected to support continuous improvement initiatives focusing on safety, quality, cost efficiency, delivery, and team morale. Beyond assembly, team members assist in training and mentoring new employees, contributing to the overall development and strength of the workforce. Additionally, this position requires the ability to perform functional testing of assemblies, handle sensitive "Class A" surfaces with accuracy including touch-up painting, and sign off on completed work according to specifications. This ensures that every aircraft component complies with the high standards required by the aerospace industry.

Saab values teamwork, trust, expertise, and support, which are emphasized within the work environment. Individuals in this role will be part of a team-based setting striving to maintain a positive and productive atmosphere. The company prioritizes safety and quality in all processes while encouraging employees to be proactive in identifying opportunities for advancement. Compensation for Structural Assemblers starts at an hourly rate of $23 to $25, depending on relevant experience, particularly in aerostructure assembly. Saab’s compensation approach also considers factors such as role responsibilities, location, and candidate qualifications including education and skills.

This position requires an applicant to be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual and to pass a pre-employment drug screen as Saab maintains a drug-free workplace policy. The work demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, lifting, and the use of power tools.
