Saab is a leading defense and security company dedicated to helping nations keep their people and society safe. With a talented workforce of 28,000 employees globally, Saab is known for constantly pushing the boundaries of technology to create a safer and more sustainable world. In the United States, Saab delivers advanced technology and systems that support the U.S. Armed Forces and the Federal Aviation Administration, as well as international and commercial partners. The company is headquartered in Syracuse, New York, and maintains business units and local employees across ten U.S. locations. Saab values diversity and inclusion, respecting each individual's needs and offering unlimited opportunities for career advancement. It is an Affirmative Action employer for protected veterans and individuals with disabilities and an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, disability status, or any other protected category.

Saab is currently expanding its advanced manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, and seeking Structural Assemblers for the 1st shift to join its team. The Structural Assembler role focuses on building the aft fuselage for the U.S. Air Force's new military trainer aircraft, the T-7A Red Hawk. This position involves assembling critical aircraft structures and contributing to the development of Saab's state-of-the-art production system. Assemblers will receive paid on-site job training through Saab’s Aerospace Structures Training Academy, preparing them to meet exacting aerospace standards. The anticipated start date for new assemblers is September-October 2026.

This role requires individuals to execute standardized working procedures to deliver 100% quality in the installation of systems and final mechanical assembly on the aircraft structure. Assemblers are responsible for delivering work according to stringent quality requirements and instructions, implementing these standards in a collaborative team-based environment. They are also expected to support continuous improvement efforts that enhance safety, quality, cost efficiency, delivery timelines, and workplace morale.

Additional responsibilities include the ability to complete functional testing of assemblies, handle "Class A" surfaces including touch-up painting, and sign off on completed work according to precise specifications. These assemblers will play an integral role in training and transferring knowledge to new employees, helping maintain high standards across the production line. The role demands a positive contribution to the work environment aligned with Saab’s core values: Trust, Drive, Expertise, and Support. Candidates must be able to handle physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, twisting, grasping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting parts frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The work also involves use of handheld power tools and may require extended hours and weekend overtime as needed.

Compensation for the Structural Assembler role starts at an hourly rate of $23 to $25 depending on relevant aerostructure experience. Saab considers numerous factors when extending offers, including the role’s responsibilities, location, market conditions, candidate’s experience, skills, and education or training. This position provides an excellent opportunity for those seeking to build a rewarding career in advanced aerospace manufacturing within a respected global defense company.
