The current opportunity is for a Streaming Meteorologist with Hawaii News Now, a part of Gray Media’s broadcast family, providing a unique and innovative role within one of the most respected weather teams in the country. This position is full-time, with a salary range between $70,000 and $90,000 annually, and typically operates during a Monday through Friday schedule, or as directed by management.

This role transcends the traditional meteorologist position by emphasizing dynamic weather communication across a variety of platforms, including broadcast, streaming, digital, mobile, and social media. The Streaming Meteorologist will join a highly skilled and collaborative weather team celebrated for excellence, innovation, and close community connections within the distinct forecasting environment of Hawaii. The role is designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced and multi-platform environment and is eager to help shape the future of weather coverage through storytelling, technology, and audience engagement.

The Streaming Meteorologist will be responsible for delivering accurate and compelling weather forecasts tailored to diverse audiences across television, streaming, apps, and social platforms. The position requires creativity in developing and hosting specialty programming, including explainers, deep dives, and severe weather coverage using innovative digital-first formats. The candidate will also produce content for breaking coverage and enterprise reporting while building visually impressive weather presentations utilizing graphics, data visualization, and advanced weather technology.

In addition, the Streaming Meteorologist will collaborate closely with newsroom, digital, production, and weather team members to innovate and elevate the station’s coverage. The role involves quick and creative editing and packaging of digital content for streaming and online audiences, fostering audience growth through fresh ideas and understanding shifting viewer habits. Ideal candidates are strong communicators who can make complex weather information understandable and engaging, exhibit strong forecasting skills, and possess a spirit of innovation and teamwork.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in meteorology or related field
  • Previous experience in weather forecasting or meteorology
  • Proficiency with broadcast weather technology and graphics
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-platform environment
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday or as scheduled by management
  • Commitment to adhering to company policies including drug-free workplace standards
