Job Description

Vertex is a leading global biotechnology company dedicated to scientific innovation and improving patients' lives. Focused on developing transformative medicines, Vertex specializes in creating novel therapies for serious diseases and conditions. Its commitment to research and development, along with a collaborative and inclusive culture, has positioned Vertex as a trusted name in the biopharmaceutical industry. The company emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion and offers competitive total rewards including comprehensive healthcare benefits, educational assistance, and financial wellness programs.

The Strategic Accounts Lead (SAL) role, part of the health system/IDN field team within Vertex's US Pain Business Unit, plays a pivotal role supporting the brand JOURNAVX. This product is a highly selective inhibitor of NaV1.8, aimed at targeting pain signals exactly where they originate, representing a cutting-edge approach to pain management. The SAL focuses on managing and expanding relationships with the highest-priority Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), and GPO aggregate accounts primarily in Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Accounts - Central Area, the position is regionalized under the East Central SAL territory.

The ideal candidate will preferably reside in the Chicagoland, Indianapolis, or St Louis areas and should be prepared for significant travel commitments ranging from 60% to 70%, reflecting the importance of direct engagement and relationship-building with key healthcare stakeholders. This function involves developing sophisticated engagement strategies and account plans to ensure successful partnership and market penetration within top-tier IDNs and GPOs.

Key responsibilities include engaging leadership and formulary decision makers to secure access, support product uptake, and foster innovative partnerships. The SAL also coordinates internal communication across transversal teams, ensuring cohesive, compliant execution of account management strategies. This role acts as the central liaison point for customers and is expected to drive enterprise-level engagement using both traditional and digital engagement methods.

The Strategic Accounts Lead position demands a dynamic and highly collaborative professional capable of influencing cross-functional teams including Market Access, Sales, Marketing, Compliance, Legal, Field Operations, and HR. The role requires a strong ethical foundation and integrity to uphold the company’s culture of compliance and earn the trust of external stakeholders. With an attractive salary range of $166,400 to $249,600, this full-time position also includes eligibility for annual bonuses, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits package. Vertex supports flexible work arrangements and prioritizes employee well-being and professional growth, making this an exceptional opportunity for seasoned professionals in healthcare and biopharmaceutical account management.
