Job Description

Vertex is a global biotechnology company dedicated to scientific innovation and transformative therapies. With a strong presence in the biopharmaceutical industry, Vertex focuses on developing breakthrough treatments that address serious diseases and improve patients' lives worldwide. The company's commitment to cutting-edge research and development underscores its reputation as a leader in the biotechnology sector, supported by a diverse team of passionate professionals and a collaborative work environment. Vertex prides itself on creating an inclusive culture that values diversity and fosters growth, ensuring an excellent workplace for employees at every stage of their career.

The US Pain Business Unit at Vertex is actively seeking an experienced commercial leader to join their team in a pivotal role supporting Journavx, a promising new treatment option designed for acute pain management. This full-time position centers on the role of Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) Account Lead, who will play a critical part in developing and executing strategic GPO-related initiatives. The GPO Account Lead will be responsible for building and nurturing strong relationships with key decision makers at major hospital GPOs such as Vizient, Premier, Health Trust, The Resource Group, and Apexus, as well as their networks and affiliated members. These relationships are fundamental to securing access and driving adoption of Vertex's products within the hospital supply chain.

In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Market Access, Strategic Accounts, Commercial, Marketing, Contracting, Trade, Pricing, Legal, Compliance, and Leadership—to craft innovative pricing and contract strategies that benefit both Vertex and the GPO members they serve. The position demands a strategic mindset aimed at expanding the footprint of Journavx by not only negotiating favorable contracts and pricing agreements but also by identifying creative growth opportunities such as conferences, co-marketing initiatives, and other collaborative ventures with GPOs.

The GPO Account Lead will take ownership of managing complex contract negotiations while ensuring adherence to compliance standards and company policies. Key responsibilities also include preparing detailed performance reports, analyzing trends within the channel, and communicating insights to stakeholders to optimize strategic initiatives. As this position is field-based, the role includes up to 40% travel, allowing for consistent engagement with GPO leadership and members across various regions.

Vertex offers a competitive salary range from $166,400 to $249,600, supplemented by eligibility for annual bonuses and equity awards. The company emphasizes a comprehensive Total Rewards package, including market-leading benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous paid time off including company-wide holiday shutdowns during summer and winter, educational assistance programs including student loan repayment, commuting subsidies, charitable donation matching, and robust 401(k) plans.

The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of experience in healthcare or biopharmaceutical industries, with a minimum of five years dedicated to managing GPO accounts. They must possess in-depth knowledge of GPO operations, healthcare supply chains, and contract negotiation with proven success in establishing growth or volume-based pricing agreements. Excellent communication skills, ethical integrity, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions are essential qualities. Vertex maintains a strong commitment to equal employment opportunity, embraces diversity in all forms, and accommodates employees with disabilities in accordance with applicable laws.
