Job Description

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter in communities across Vermont. Their mission centers on creating safe, affordable homes by partnering with local families, volunteers, and supporters. By fostering dignity, empowerment, and community connection, Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity works to address the root causes of housing insecurity and improve long-term wellbeing for individuals and families. They operate multiple ReStores in Williston, Milton, and Swanton, Vermont, which are essential in promoting sustainability and providing affordable resources through the sale of new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, clothing, electronics, and home goods. Proceeds from these ReStores directly fund the construction of permanently affordable housing, reinforcing the organization's commitment to making a meaningful social impact.

The role of a ReStore Supervisor at Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is integral to the success of their retail operations. These supervisors are responsible for overseeing the daily activities of their respective ReStore associates, ensuring the smooth intake and management of donations, and maintaining an organized warehouse and donation line. They act as a bridge between the customer-facing sales floor and the backend logistics, facilitating excellent customer service while sharing the mission of the organization with visitors and volunteers alike. The supervisor's duties extend to coordinating donation drop-offs, pricing merchandise, training staff on operational tasks, and utilizing equipment such as forklifts to manage inventory efficiently.

This position requires a hands-on leader capable of managing a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Supervisors work closely with Store Leaders and the Procurement Manager to identify and fulfill areas of need, ensuring that the ReStore operates cohesively and productively. Beyond managing daily operational tasks, the role includes fostering a cooperative relationship between various departments within the ReStore and supporting volunteers by providing guidance and training. Supervisors also play a key role in donor relations, promoting ongoing donations critical to sustaining inventory levels.

Working at Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a purpose-driven retail environment that directly impacts local communities. With full-time, hourly employment and pay ranging from $17 to $18 per hour, employees benefit from flexible schedules adapted to store needs and do not have to travel for work. The organization values diversity and inclusivity, encouraging candidates from all backgrounds to apply and creating an equitable workplace culture.

Employees enjoy a range of benefits that support their wellbeing, including ample paid time off accrued with each shift, paid holidays, a health reimbursement plan with an annual allowance, and a generous 20 percent discount at all Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity ReStores. This role is ideal for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about making a difference through their work. The work environment is vibrant and occasionally noisy, reflecting the active nature of the retail and warehouse setting.

Overall, the ReStore Supervisor position at Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is a fulfilling career opportunity that blends leadership, community service, and operational management. It offers the chance to be part of a collaborative, creative team dedicated to a meaningful cause, where everyday efforts directly translate into building affordable housing and supporting families in need throughout Northwestern Vermont.
