The Store Manager role at Petco represents a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a Pet Care Center. The Store Manager is accountable for driving store performance, managing team leadership, and ensuring a superior customer experience while upholding Petco’s high operational and safety standards. This full-time, in-person role is based at the Petco location at 1550 7th Street NW, Washington, DC. The position requires a hands-on leader who balances managing people, executing operational tasks, and delivering business results. The Store Manager is expected to own all aspects of the store’s functionality, from safety and care of pets and customers to recruiting, coaching, and developing staff members. They serve as the face of the store by leading on the sales floor, engaging directly with customers, partners, and pets. This leadership role demands strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills combined with a genuine passion for pets and excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities include ensuring that the store operates safely and cleanly, executing company policies, managing sales and financial targets, and protecting company assets through inventory control and loss prevention. Additionally, the Store Manager plays a pivotal role in creating an inclusive and motivating culture where employees feel valued and engaged. This leader plans labor schedules carefully to balance business needs and customer experience, oversees merchandising and promotional standards, and takes action based on sales and operational data to drive results. The role requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, and working in proximity to animals. It also involves flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The pay range for the position is $27.10 to $44.00 per hour or salary equivalent, depending on location, experience, and applicable minimum wage laws. Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of management experience

Job Duties

  • Own the safety, care, and well-being of pets and pet parents within the Pet Care Center
  • ensure all policies, procedures, and safety standards are executed consistently and without exception
