The role of Store Manager at Petco is a full-time, in-store leadership position based at 2303 W. Burnside Street, Portland, OR. As the Store Manager, you will act as the owner of your Pet Care Center business, accountable for all aspects of day-to-day operations, team leadership, customer experience, and store performance. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the store operates safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Petco's high standards in pet care and customer service. You will lead a hands-on team environment, balancing effective people management with operational execution and business results. This role requires a strategic leader who can foster a positive culture, drive sales and profitability, maintain store compliance and appearance, and create an inclusive and engaging workplace where partners feel supported and motivated.

This position demands exceptional leadership skills to recruit, develop, and retain diverse talent, coach team members for performance and growth, address concerns promptly and professionally, and build a sustainable talent pipeline. Additionally, you will manage store resources effectively, including labor, merchandising, inventory, and promotional executions, while analyzing sales and operational data to identify opportunities and drive impactful decision-making. Regular presence on the sales floor is essential, enabling you to lead by example, model Petco’s selling behaviors, and engage meaningfully with partners, customers, and pets.
Working conditions include a retail environment with frequent standing, walking, and physical activities such as bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in close proximity to animals and related conditions. Flexibility in schedule is necessary to accommodate operational hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel for training, meetings, or community events may also be required occasionally. - 2+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- Solid business, financial, and operational acumen
