With a broad regional presence and a strong commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, Goodwill offers sustainable economic opportunities by operating retail stores, providing career development services, and promoting environmental sustainability through donation-based merchandise sales. This organization prides itself on fostering inclusive job environments and delivering excellent customer experiences, while supporting a mission-driven approach that benefits communities across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest region.
The Floating Manager role based in Anchorage and Wasilla at Goodwill Industries is a dynamic leadership position integral to the successful operation of multiple retail locations within the region. This position requires a versatile and experienced manager capable of adapting to varying store environments and operational needs by traveling and working across different stores. The Floating Manager acts as a critical support to the Retail Store Manager, stepping in to lead in their absence, and directly influencing sales performance, operational efficiency, and team development.
In this role, the Floating Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of store management, including donation collection, inventory processing, sales oversight, personnel supervision, financial management, and loss prevention. Demonstrating effective leadership and communication skills, the manager ensures that each store delivers exceptional customer service, maintains a high standard of appearance, and operates within organizational policies. Emphasis is placed on maximizing sales through strategic merchandise rotation, visual merchandising, and continuous process improvements known as kaizen. The ability to meet or exceed sales goals consistently is essential.
The position involves supervising store employees, training staff in sales techniques and donation processing procedures, and enforcing adherence to company standards. The Floating Manager will also oversee regulatory compliance by managing store operations to achieve high audit scores and passing mystery shopper assessments with excellence. Key duties include maintaining store cleanliness, managing cash registers and customer service points, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for customers and employees alike.
Goodwill offers a comprehensive benefits package for this position, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays and paid vacation, sick leave, and a 403(b) retirement plan with generous matching contributions after one year. Employees also benefit from discounts, career advancement opportunities, and an employee assistance program. The organization values a drug and alcohol-free workplace, with all applicants required to pass a background check and drug screening as part of the employment process.
This role is ideal for experienced retail managers with a passion for community-driven work and a dedication to operational excellence. Candidates must have strong organizational skills, the ability to lead diverse teams, and a flexible approach to managing multiple store locations. The Floating Manager position is an excellent opportunity to combine leadership, retail expertise, and mission-focused work within a supportive and purpose-driven organization.
