Job Description
Habitat for Humanity Portland Region is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to building and repairing affordable homes in partnership with the community across the Portland metropolitan area. Founded in 1981, it has successfully helped more than 3,000 families find safe, decent, and affordable housing through its efforts. As an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the organization operates multiple offices, four brick-and-mortar ReStores, a warehouse, and numerous construction sites located in Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, King City, Gresham, and Lake Oswego. Habitat Portland Region is deeply committed to equity, anti-racism, and creating a diverse and inclusive environment for its team members, partners, volunteers, and donors. The organizational culture emphasizes continuous learning and operationalizing equitable practices to improve outcomes for all involved communities.
This role is an integral part of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore team in Portland, focused on retail operations involving the sale of donated materials that help fund homebuilding projects. The position offered is part-time, located within the Portland ReStore department, and reports directly to the Store Manager. Compensation for this position ranges from $17.34 to $20.61 per hour, with opportunities for incremental raises based on performance and qualifications. The organization also provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off (vacation, sick leave, holidays, and birthday off), life insurance, paid family and medical leave, and participation in a 403(b) retirement plan with a 3% match. This is a highly active role requiring motivation, teamwork, and alignment with the Habitat mission.
The ReStore Associate supports all facets of daily retail operations with duties that may include customer service, cashiering, donation acceptance, stocking, pricing, guiding volunteers, and assisting with donation pick-ups. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment involving physical activity such as loading and unloading items, moving merchandise, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. They are adept at time management, safety adherence, use of communication tools, and collaborating with both staff and volunteers. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply—the organization values skills and potential over formal education or traditional qualifications, actively seeking candidates who are passionate about affordable housing and community upliftment.
Working at Habitat Portland Region means becoming part of a dedicated team that plays a meaningful role in transforming lives and neighborhoods through affordable housing. The role offers a chance to work in an enriching and supportive environment that emphasizes equity and continuous growth, with stable part-time hours that may include some weekend shifts. Store hours currently run Wednesday through Monday from 10 am to 6 pm, with Tuesdays from 10 am to 2 pm, allowing for a manageable and structured work schedule. Successful candidates will undergo a background check to ensure suitability and safety within the workplace. This position does not require a minimum education or experience and encourages individuals who may have gained skills through paid work, volunteer experience, or life experience to apply, reflecting Habitat Portland Region’s commitment to removing barriers to employment.
