Job Description
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Serving communities across Vermont, GMHFH partners with local families, volunteers, and supporters to create safe, affordable homes that provide a foundation for opportunity and long-term wellbeing. Guided by the belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live, GMHFH works to address the root causes of housing insecurity while fostering dignity, empowerment, and community connection. Their efforts are integral to improving the quality of life for many individuals and families in Northwestern Vermont.
The organization operates ReStores in Williston, Milton, and Swanton, which play a critical role in supporting GMHFH's mission. These ReStores accept donations of new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, clothing, electronics, and home goods. The items are then sold at discounted prices, promoting sustainability by keeping goods out of landfills while providing affordable resources to the community. The proceeds from these sales fund the construction of permanently affordable housing for families and individuals in the region.
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking ReStore Associates to join their dedicated teams in these locations. Offering both full and part-time hourly, non-exempt positions with flexible schedules that vary according to store needs and employee availability, the ReStore Associate role is vital in ensuring the smooth operation of the stores. The pay is $16 per hour, and benefits include paid time off accrued with every shift and a 20% discount at all GMHFH ReStores.
The ReStore Associate performs key duties that involve safely handling, sorting, and pricing donations; unloading trucks; moving furniture; and maintaining the sales floor. This role requires physical stamina, as it involves lifting items up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods. The Associate also provides excellent customer service, assisting donors and customers to ensure a safe, positive, and rewarding experience. They help communicate the mission of GMHFH while maintaining store presentation and safety standards.
In this role, associates will unload donated items from donor vehicles, accept or reject donations based on quality, assist with scheduled pickups, and move items to the sales floor. Cleaning, sorting, pricing, and maintaining inventory standards are important tasks, as is keeping the loading dock and sales floor safe and organized. Associates greet customers, assist with inquiries, and may operate the point-of-sale system, handling transactions effectively and accurately.
Candidates are expected to have experience working in a retail or warehouse setting, with preference given to those experienced in handling heavy goods and loading. A high school diploma is preferred. Strong communication skills, dependability, time management, flexibility, and teamwork are essential for success in this role. Associates must maintain focus and the ability to complete assigned tasks efficiently while interacting positively with colleagues, volunteers, donors, and customers.
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is committed to diversity and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about community service, sustainability, and affordable housing, who thrive in a collaborative, purpose-driven retail and warehouse environment. Apply now to be part of a compassionate team making a meaningful impact across Vermont through your everyday work.
