Job Description
The hiring establishment is a dynamic retail company specializing in the receiving and stocking of merchandise to ensure smooth operations across various departments. As a vital part of the company’s supply chain, the receiving department plays a crucial role in maintaining product availability for customers, ensuring that the inventory is well-stocked, and that all goods are handled efficiently upon delivery. This company is known for its commitment to customer service and operational excellence, operating with a team of dedicated professionals who focus on meeting the high standards expected by both customers and regulatory bodies.
This position, Stocker - Receiving, is a non-exempt role reporting directly to the Receiving Manager, Assistant Receiving Manager, and Receiving Supervisor. It is centered around the efficient handling of products immediately after delivery, including the removal of pallets from delivery trucks, careful staging of merchandise for inspection, and the distribution of items to their designated departments. The role demands physical stamina and attention to safety protocols, as the work involves handling heavy loads, operating pallet jacks or scooters, and maintaining a clean and hazard-free workspace.
The Stocker is responsible not only for the physical tasks of moving and stocking merchandise but also plays an essential role in customer interaction. Providing prompt, courteous, and helpful service exemplifies the customer-focused culture of the company. Employees in this role must greet customers warmly, assist with loading and unloading products, and provide information on product location and details whenever required. This combination of operational and customer service responsibilities makes the role both physically engaging and socially interactive.
Candidates in this position must adhere to safety guidelines rigorously, conducting equipment safety checks before use and reporting any concerns immediately. The job includes routine maintenance of electric equipment, ensuring that all tools and machines are functioning correctly to prevent disruptions in the workflow. The Stocker also handles product identification and rotation by completing block tags with item numbers and delivery dates, supporting inventory accuracy and compliance with regulations such as HACCP.
Physically, the role demands wearing steel toe boots and the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items frequently throughout the workday. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds overhead, push or pull up to 500 pounds horizontally, and maintain agility and manual dexterity is essential. The work environment can be challenging, often involving exposure to varying ambient temperatures, including cold environments in departments like Deli, Produce, or Meat. Workers must also be comfortable operating in a warehouse setting with industrial vehicles such as forklifts and HiLos moving around.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who thrive in active roles and enjoy a balance of physical work with meaningful customer interaction. The company values flexibility, as the work schedule may require overtime to meet operational needs. Commitment to company values and a strong customer orientation are fundamental to success in this role. The Stocker - Receiving is a critical link in the supply chain, ensuring that each department is stocked adequately and that customers receive the best possible service from the moment products arrive onsite.
